Community Information Night - Bangalow Bowling Club

Wednesday, February 1, 7.30pm

The Bangalow Bowling and Sports Club is currently under voluntary receivership. A new management structure, with a focus on customer service and members, is being planned for the club.

This public meeting will explain the current situation and outline the  recovery plan, which includes a proposal to raise capital through the issue of debentures. Come along, get involved and help to ensure that the Bowlo gets back on its feet as soon as possible.

Community Forum, Bangalow Interchange 

Thursday, February 2,   4pm - 8pm

Saturday, February 4,  9am - 12noon

Roads & Maritime Services [RMS, formerly RTA] and the Bangalow working party have investigated alternative options for the interchange at Bangalow as part of the Pacific Highway upgrade from Tintenbar to Ewingsdale.

These forums are a chance for the Bangalow community to understand the interchange options and to have their say. Members of the RMS project team will be available to discuss the displays, to answer questions and to receive feedback.

Everyone is encouraged to take the time, get involved and make sure we get the best possible outcome for the village of Bangalow.

 

Community Information Session, Highway Upgrade

Tuesday, February 7, 5.30pm - 8pm                  

The project team from Baulderstone, successful contractors for the Ewingsdale-Tintenbar section of the Pacific highway upgrade, want to meet the community. They will be on hand to discuss the construction program and the pre-construction activities now underway. Find out how you and your community will be affected.

 

A Night of Cinema Nostalgia

Thursday, February 16,  8pm                    

Remember interval ... newsreels ... black and white? They'll all be revived on this evening of superb vintage cinema from the incredible film collection of Michael Lines-Kelly, from the Left Bank Film Society. A cartoon, a newsreel and a feature 'short'. Interval with hot drinks and delicious sweet things. And then the 1945 David Lean classic Brief Encounter, a romantic drama starring Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard.

Hosted by ADFAS Byron Bay & Districts, this is an evening to induce nostalgia in the any modern moviegoer. Bring a cushion and prepare to settle in. Doors open 7.15pm and screening strarts 8pm sharp. Tix $20, pay at the door, bookings not necessary. Enquiries to Carole on 6684 4996.

 

Supporting our National Broadcasters: ABC and SBS

Saturday, February 18,  2pm - 5pm

Friends of the ABC Northern Rivers present this discussion on the future of public broadcasting. The aim of the seminar is to present local members Janlle Saffin [MP for Page] and Justine Elliott [MP for Richmond] with feedback about valued aspects of the ABC and SBS and to outline a preferred future for our national broadcasters from a Northern Rivers perspective.

Speakers will include Prof Baden Offord, Rhoda Roberts, Penny Fox and Councillor John Arkan, plus filmmakers, writers and performers and representatives from young listeners, farmers and the SES.

All who value public broadcasting are urged to attend. Keynote speakers and members of Friends of the ABC NR will be lunching informally at the Bangalow pub from 12 noon and anyone is welcome to do likewise - the pub will have been warned to expect an influx!

 

Earthship Biotechture - a new way of living

Earthships are made for the earth with the planet in mind, to sustain the growing population and the harsh environmental and economic conditions we may face in future days.

With over 40 years of research, the design is futuristic and Michael Reynolds is conducting seminars around Australia to offer us an insight into radically sustainable living.

The seminar will include a short film screening, an earthship presentation and a Q&A with Michael, who will be joined by sustainable living experts for a panel discussion.

Baro Banda - concert

Baro Banda are a truly global band. Founded in Istanbul in 2006, Baro Banda have created a fusion of underground gypsy roots music and electronic sounds that has seen them hailed as 'the hottest new addition to the gypsy music playground'.

Baro Banda is a collaboration of 3 Romany, 3 Australian and 2 Turkish musicians, playing everything from heavy Turkish  Romany grooves to drum'n'bass, dub, funk, jazz and hip hop. Gypsy clarinet master Savas Zurnaci (Turkey), vocalist/guitarist Murat Yucel (Australia/Turkey) and saxophonist Alisha Brooks (Australia) are joined by their rhythm section, together with various electronic devices, to create a new dimension in world roots music ... expect the unexpected!
